February 20, 2015

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Valerie Dyke M.D., F.A.S.C.R.S., Board Certified Colorectal Surgeon with The Colorectal Institute, has received the 2015 American Cancer Society Legacy Award at the Cattle Barons’ Ball this year. Dr. Dyke was chosen for this award because of her passion for educating the community about cancer prevention and the latest advances in cancer treatment.

“Dr. Dyke plays such a big role in our community,” said David Call, CEO of Fifth Third Bank and chairman of the 2015 Cattle Barons’ Ball planning committee. “We appreciate the numerous hours she contributed to volunteering in our community for cancer education.”

Dr. Dyke spends much of her free time getting involved in numerous community health outreach programs to educate the community about cancer prevention and treatment options. She presents at free lectures around Lee County, helps coordinate the “Scope for Hope” 5K fundraiser, and served as chair of the 2014 Powerful Women, Powerful Choices Women’s Cancer Forum.

Dr. Dyke graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and holds two board certifications in general and colorectal surgery. She is part of the Lee County Medical Association, the American Medical Association and Florida Medical Association.

“This award is a tremendous honor,” said Dr. Dyke, “I am proud that we are able to provide these services for everyone in our community.”

By receiving this award, Dr. Dyke has joined her colleagues in being recognized for their collective passion toward the quality care of cancer patients in Southwest Florida. Dr. Dyke and other physicians treat patients through United Way’s We Care program that connects patients, regardless of insurance or ability to pay, to medical care and emotional support services.

Dr. Dyke is committed to ensuring that all patients in Lee County with colorectal cancer receive quality treatment, regardless of their socioeconomic status. She plans to continue being involved in her community and spreading knowledge about cancer education, prevention and treatment.
