JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jan. 6, 2017 – 21st Century Oncology is honored to announce that the Palatka and St. Augustine facilities have earned the prestigious American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) accreditation. Both centers earned the distinction after a thorough, objective and impartial peer review of each facility.
Board Certified Radiation Oncologist and Medical Director of the Palatka facility, Anand Kuruvilla, M.D., F.A.C.R.O. and Neenad Shah, M.D., Medical Director of our Flagler Hospital, St. Augustine facility take pride in 21st Century Oncology’s commitment to excellence. The ACRO accreditation is just one of many ways in which this dedication has been proven.
“Dr. Shah and I are thrilled to receive this accreditation,” Dr. Kuruvilla said. “Our commitment to excellence in our field and our dedication to our patients is well known. I am proud that my staff’s efforts have been affirmed and recognized by our peers. Every day our team works tirelessly to provide the utmost care for our patients in both the Palatka and St. Augustine facilities.”
ACRO’s mission is to strive to ensure the highest quality of care for radiation therapy patients, and promote success in the practice of radiation oncology through education, responsible socioeconomic advocacy, and integration of science and technology into clinical practice.
As part of their mission, ACRO began their practice accreditation program in 1995, which consisted of practice standards within the field of radiation oncology.
Today, accreditation from ACRO remains a voluntary process in which professional peers identify standards indicative of a quality practice through audits conducted to assure that these standards are followed, including onsite visits by physics and administrative surveyors.
During the review process, 21st Century Oncology’s locations in Palatka and St. Augustine were judged on accuracy in patients' charts, including medical information, quality of documentation and case management, calibration of all machines, radiation safety measures, and a review of all processes and work-flow within the facility.
