Physicians Join Key West Cancer Center to Enhance Patient Care

KEY WEST, Fla. – Sept. 25, 2014 – 21st Century Oncology, the nation’s leading provider of cancer care services across multiple modalities, is pleased to announce two new Board Certified Medical Oncologists have joined the Marta A. Gonzalez Cancer Center in Key West. Carlos M. Castillo, M.D., and Thomas A. Marsland, M.D. will now provide medical oncology services at the center. The Marta A. Gonzalez Cancer Center is now able to offer local cancer patients both radiation therapy and chemotherapy services in one convenient location.

Gonzalez Cancer Center. “With their combined experience and skills, Dr. Castillo and Dr. Marsland will provide the highest standard of cancer care to patients in our community.”

By providing radiation oncology and chemotherapy at one location, patients will have enhanced access to integrated cancer care services. 21st Century Oncology’s team of cancer care experts will provide Monroe County patients access to the latest advances and technology for radiation, hormone, biological, chemo and other targeted therapies, all within our community.

“Certain types of cancers are considered more responsive to one line of treatment when fighting the disease, while others require a combination of therapies,” says Dr. Castillo. “In many cases, it is necessary for oncologists and other cancer-related specialists to work together as an integrated team, and we are proud to deliver the most advanced cancer care at one location, close to patients’ homes.”

Dr. Castillo earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico and completed his internship at the University of Texas Health Science School of San Antonio. He completed fellowship training in oncology and hematology at the University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville.

Dr. Marsland received his medical degree from Temple Terrace School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. He completed fellowship training in oncology at Tuft's New England Medical Center in Boston, as well as fellowship training in hematology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Dr. Marsland previously served as president of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO) for two terms and has over 26 years of clinical experience.
