Homeless Heroes Collection Drive Honors Memory of Veteran’s Advocate

June 12, 2017

FORT MYERS, Fla. – June 12, 2017 – 21st Century Oncology is hosting a collection drive for homeless veterans on Friday, June 16 from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. in memory of Debra Dempsey, 21st Century Oncology’s Manager of Veterans Programs & Relations. The collection drive will be held at 2270 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers.

On May 26, 2017 Dempsey, a tireless advocate for veterans, passed away in a tragic accident.

Dempsey worked at the VA Medical Center for 35 years before joining 21st Century Oncology where she continued serving veterans by helping them gain access to the healthcare they needed. She was passionate about helping “her veterans” with their healthcare needs.

“21st Century Oncology has lost more than just a dedicated employee, but a determined advocate for veteran care,” says Constantine Mantz, M.D., 21st Century Oncology’s Chief Medical Officer. “Deb was one of a kind, and while we are all saddened by her loss, we can take solace in the fact that her many actions assisted veterans in obtaining the cancer care they needed.”

To honor Dempsey’s legacy, 21st Century Oncology is hoping to continue her work through the Homeless Heroes Collection Drive.

Most needed items are reusable water bottles, socks, underwear, sunscreen, rain ponchos, disposable razors, insect repellant, shampoo, shaving cream, deodorant, cleansing wipes, combs and brushes. Food items will also be accepted, such as canned fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods, peanut butter, healthy snacks (fruit cups, raisins, granola bars), beans, tomato products (dried tomatoes and spaghetti sauce) and lean canned protein.
