Yonkers Radiation Medical Practice bringing staff, patients and community together for those in need
YONKERS, N.Y. – Dec. 16, 2013 - Yonkers Radiation Medical Practice, an affiliate of 21st Century Oncology, announced today that they will host Give Thanks, Warm Hearts, a food drive to give to those in need in the community, on Dec. 20th 2013, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 970 North Broadway, Suite 101, Yonkers. NY.
Despite battling their own journey with cancer, the Yonkers Radiation Medical Practice patients have collaborated with the staff and Medical Director Alfred Tinger, M.D. F.A.C.R.O., Board Certified Radiation Oncologist, to make the day a success.
“As the holidays are approaching, patients and staff have decided to bring happiness, joy and a smile to the lives of so many while continuing their quest of making a difference in the community,” said Dr. Tinger. “Give Thanks, Warm Hearts is our way of trying to make a positive impact in our community by helping those in need.”
On Give Thanks, Warm Hearts day, the Riverdale Avenue YMCA in Yonkers, N.Y., will collect the bags of food at the Yonkers Radiation Medical Practice office.
“Most of us are in need one way or the other but when people reach out to meet the needs of someone else, it truly shows what a wonderful world we live in,” said YMCA Chief Development Officer John Thompson.
Additionally, during Give Thanks, Warm Hearts day, the Executive Team from Yonkers Radiation Medical Practice will surprise their participating patients and staff with a token of appreciation and gifts. Special guest Barino’s Market will be on hand to make donations of gift certificates.
Event organizer and Yonkers Radiation Medical Practice Certified Patient Navigator, Maud F. Colas, is hoping Give Thanks, Warm Hearts will create an opportunity for patients and healthcare providers to reach out to the community and make the holiday season brighter for those who need help.
“The patient experience is our number one priority,” said Colas. “Our patients come from all walks of life and live in all parts of our community. We want to reach out to everyone we can to either help or to accept the kindness of others in the holiday season.”
As a patient navigator, her role is to guide patients through the complexities of the healthcare system while identifying, assessing and resolving nonclinical barriers to treatment. She aims to ensure patients receive timely cancer diagnoses and treatment, as well as help with financial challenges, language barriers, insurance problems, transportation issues and patient fear.
